They only prescribe expensive meds not covered by insurance or have high co-pay.

I think the CVS Minute Clinic is a scam.....let me explain. Yes, they can treat minor issues, but they prescribe the most expensive medications that are not covered under medical plans or have a huge co-pay. They have done this to me twice. Earlier this summer my daughter had swimmers ear and I had to beg them for a cheaper drug...the NP didn't want to give it to me because you had to take it twice a day instead of once.....don't care. Free vs $150 out of pocket. The free with insurance drug worked just as good. Then today they prescribed a drug for my son that is $450 out of pocket. They would not change to something else. We said NO WAY IN *** and went to our pediatrician and got something that was free with insurance........Really. Be warned. I think they are trying to increase their drug sales via the minute clinic NP's ... Just Sayin.

Providers prescribe based on what is medically indicated; not by price. Sucks you have *** insurance but not MinuteClinic's fault.

Guest

I must correct you by telling you MC NPs should NOT prescribe medications based on anything other than medical evidence. I am sorry there was an expensive medication used but If the clinical picture recommended it, that's what we are to prescribe for your benefit.

I have never had a problem using a cheaper medication IF what the diagnosis was matched a cheaper medication.

As far as pharmacy goes, you can have your medication filled at any pharmacy. It is your choice to use CVS or not.

Guest

You're exactly correct. I got fired from Minute Clinic for referring patients who had no insurance nor cash for antibiotics to certain stores that were offering some antibiotics for free instead of sending them to the CVS in-store pharmacy where they had to pay a LOT...!

Bad service at Minute Clinic

I went to Minute CLinic with Bronchitis. I had brown phlegm, a cough, SOB and fever. I have had it for 2 weeks. THe PA would not prescribe me antibiotics stating research doesn't warrant antibiotics for bronchitis anymore I am a NP, I am well versed on current treatment, this is not true. THen he said, MInute Clinic was sited for prescribing too many antibiotics and my charts are being audited, I can't prescibe this for you. My husband had gone there with a ear infection. He had impacted was where you could not see his tympanic ear drum. HE had pain and fever. SHe would not prescribe ABX and she tried to talk him into irrigation of his canal, something you should never do when you can't view the ear drum We will never go back to Minute Clinic

You must have graduated at the bottom of your class. Bronchitis is mostly viral in nature.

You can't see an ear infection if the ear is impacted.

You can absolute irrigate the ear canal without seeing the tympanic membrane. I hope you get fired because you have no idea what you're talking about and how dare you degrade another NP for doing the right thing based on scientific evidence.

Guest

The NP did everything correctly according to clinic guidelines. So sick of patients without a nursing/medical degree coming in and demanding a z-pak for every little ailment. Take your rude demands elsewhere!

Guest

True , I confess the reason most primary care docs give you and antibiotic when you diagnose yourself with a virus is that we just need you out of our faces and if an antibiotic will shut you the heck up then I will sign it quicker than I can kick you out of my office for being so *** annoying. Making an appointment to see me for a runny nose.... Here's a z--pack!

Guest

You need to review your research again then. The NP did the right thing but not prescribing antibiotics for bronchitis bc it's VIRAL.

The reason Pcp's give people antibiotics for everything is we don't have time for follow up visits so you just get them for everything.

But in reality you should only take antibiotics when you have bacteria. Not virus like colds, bronchitis

In most cases, the infection is viral in origin, but sometimes it's caused by bacteria.

Minute clinic is the BEST walk-in clinic i have ever walked into

Mostly because the nurse practioner was so knowledgeable, thorough, and clearly communicated. And to top it off, it was reasonably priced. I can't say that about any other walk-in clinic OR doctor's office. I'll take the nurse practitioner at CVS over a snotty useless doctor any day. The CVS Minute Clinic i am referring to is in Gainsville, Va. . She explains to you what she is doing, why she is doing it, what you should be concerned about, and what you can do about it . She addresses the issue you are there for and any other thing you might not be aware of. And i do appreciate it. It's been over 20 years since I felt like I got my money's worth from a health care provider. God Bless the nurse practitioner at CVS Minute Clinic in Gainesville Va. That's all I have to say.

You're completely right. Those *** people in the call center know nothing and are not medically trained in anything.

Guest

I loved that place in mcGraws corner too! I'm a nurse so I'd like to have a say in my treatment plan!

I'd already been to one of the Dr.'s in the big practice I go to & he was no help, just looked in my throat & in his way! Since I was still sick 3 days later, fever & all, plus it was sat. decided to try them as my daughter had been. She

was GREAT!!

Assessed me

more than the Dr.

did!! Will be

using them again for sure!!

Guest

I love Minute Clinic!

Guest

Ugh, The customer service people are just the WORST am I right? They have no idea what goes on in the clinics because they have never set foot inside it worked a day in one.

Laypeople always love to assume how professionals do their job but they can assume all day....

And will still remain utterly clueless. Sad:(

Guest

So if the Minute Clinic is so great why are you putting your comments in pissedconsumer.com? That's a little odd.

Minute Clinic sucks at pretty much everything.

I worked customer service for Minute Clinic in one of Xerox call centers so I know what goes on from the inside and between the two companies I have never seen anything so corrupt in my life.

The HIPPA violations alone will eventually come to light and that should put an end to the Minute Clinic as you know it. Be careful about what information you put in that sign in Kiosk

Pictures attached...Second try at Minute Clinic in Columbia, SC as my employer is pushing everyone to clinics now. This time, Jan 22.

Sign is and I am given estimated wait time of over 2 hours. It was more than 2 hours. Two people after me got 3 hr 45 minute wait times! NEVER take children here.

The Minute Clinic and two waiting chairs are right next to the condoms, lube, and vibrators! After my terrible employer insurance, they send me a bill a month later for $15. Submitted to work insurance again.

Within 3 months of visit, I get a letter from a collection agency for the $15. Will never try Minute Clinic again.

I have no idea what you're complaining about. You state that you were told the wait was over 2 hours and complain about waiting over 2 hours...

As more people sign in (2 people as you stated) the wait time will naturally increase as it takes time to see them as well. Maybe you should have gone and bought some of that lube and vibrator as you are a tightass. You have a $15 copay. You were seen and have to pay it.

You have no complaint whatsoever. Please don't ever return you ungrateful ***

Guest

If the wait time is too long for your liking, why not ask those in front if you if they mind you going ahead of them? Surely they wouldn't mind as you must be a pretty special guy. And your visit will just take "a second" I'm sure ...

Guest

To the original complainer: You are correct -- You should NEVER go to Minute Clinic again! Instead go to the Emergency Room where you will be seen MUCH quicker than in 2 hours and it will cost MUCH less than $15!

Andrea Ahw

You don't think you have to wait your turn? You don't think you have to pay your co-pay?

Your co-pay was $15.

Mine is $90, and I pay my bills. Cry me a river.

Guest

This should be where you have sympathy for the NP who is working very long hours in a room with no windows and poor ventilation to see you, each and every one of you with the same complaint.

Perhaps you missed the function where you could be texted when your turn was coming up so you didn't wait in the store this long.

Like many others who seem to miss this, READ the information on the kiosk. You are not the only sick person as evidenced by a nice photo of what the poor NP has in store and it is a WALK-IN clinic.

Minute Clinic - Doctor Review from Houston, Texas

I went into the CVS minute clinic at 2900 Broadway St. in Pearland, TX because I was out of town for the weekend. My eyes were swollen, ears aching and face swollen along side my ears. The Physicians Assistant Jill Bull evaluated me saying she found nothing but asked if I had my Mumbs vaccine. I told her yes, she said my paratoid glands are swollen follow up with my PCP no shot, no meds just took my $25.00 dollars because the Clinic doesn't service my symptoms, after reading what you do service my symptoms fall under that. I seen my doctor today, my ears had fluid and I was given a shot and antibiotics, I have been to the Clinic in Nederland, Texas several times and been diagnosed accurately and helped. I would not recommend this clinic or Jill Bull to anyone worse experience ever. Plus she said they would follow up with me on Monday never happened. The local clinic does.

The provider accurately evaluated and assessed you only to refer you out as a swollen face is not a minor illness. You have to pay for the evaluation and referral. Your doctor prescribed an antibiotic for "fluid behind your ears?" They did that to shut you up and get you out the door.

Long wait, no help

I am a NP, I used to work at the Minute Clinic 5 years ago. I went there today with a case of severe bronchitis. I have tried to treat it with OTC remedies for 3 weeks. I had a fever, cough, SOB and they stated that antibiotics are not used anymore for bronchitis, even if phlegm in brown. He also said that Minute CLinic has been over prescribing antibiotics so they have strict instructions not to prescribe antibiotics. I know when antibiotics are needed, I follow "up to date" and know what the guidelines are for treatment of bronchitis. I will never go to a Minute Clinic again My husband has a chronic left ear issue with impacted wax. He knows when he has an ear infection. THE PA was adament wanting to flush his ear. You couldn't even see his tympanic membrane. A provider should never flush and ear canal if they cannot see the TM.

You "used to work at MC." You were fired because of your incompetence. UpToDate clearly states that bronchitis is most often viral in nature.

You cannot "know" you have an ear infection, you have to see it through an otoscope. You give MC a bad name with your carelessness.

Guest

It's not just their instructions saying to not prescribe for bronchitis, it's years and years of medical EVIDENCE and Research that does! When will people learn that a virus and bacteria are not the same thing!?

Guest

Shame on you for not knowing better! Hopefully you learned your lesson.

Guest

If you used to work there, you should have already known you won't get antibiotics for bronchitis because its viral and you should have gone directly to your doc who will prescribe them for anything. Problem avoided.

False Advertisement about insurance

After going on the minute clinic website and finding they would take my insurance card for a TB test, I decided to go in and get it done there. No sooner did I walk into the doors of the nurse practitioner, he said that the cost would be $28 for the test and another $28 to read it (which is ridiculous for a needle stick and just to look at it). I explained that I went on the website and clicked on the tab to see if they accept my insurance which it claimed it did. The only thing they had on the website that insurance would not cover was a physical. In the future I will be obtaining my TB test elsewhere.

Prescription Delay Review

Called yesterday- was told my prescription would be at my pharmacy within 24 hours. Called again this morning as it still hadn't arrived at the pharmacy and was told they don't have a record of me calling yesterday. Unbelievable. Will NEVER go to another Minute Clinic again. Would not prescribe antibiotic

I went to minute clinic With from my years of life experience I knew that I needed an antibiotic. No matter how much I pleaded they would not prescribe one.

Over the next several days my condition got worse until I went somewhere else. They told me that minute clinic will not give you an antibiotic unless you know what to say to them. After three days of suffering, no sleep and missing work I will finally get better now that a different doctor has prescribed the antibiotic that I knew that I needed when I went to minute clinic.

Minute clinic is a scam. They want you to come back a second time so that they can charge you twice for what they could have done the first time.

They obviously don't really care about you.

It is all about the money with them. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else when you are sick.

Same here, I had a sinus infection, temperature, headache, earache, and the new nurse refused to prescribe antibiotic, to use over the counter medicines. I know that I can get bronchitis from plem retention. When I told her I was leaving and better not charge my insurance, she agreed I needed antibiotics.

Guest

You were given an antibiotic for the sole purpose of shutting you up.. not because you needed one. And newsflash, you do not get to tell them to not charge your insurance after taking their services ...

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1542218

Bronchitis is a viral condition. Why would you insist on antibiotics to treat a virus? And you don't even HAVE bronchitis, you just state that you "CAN" get bronchitis from "plem" retention -- whatever that is!

Guest

Your life experience is not a substitute for a medical degree. Antibiotics are only prescribed when medically indicated.

A sinus infection is most commonly viral in nature. Symptoms have to last awhile before bacterial infection is suspected.

Guest

Very true! First of all the person who sees you is a nurse (didnt think they have authority to prescribe anything but a misdiagnosis)

Guest

AGREE!!! It's a JOKE.

Same experience here. Wouldn't prescribe me antibiotics

Guest

This frustrates me beyond belief. NPs went to school, not you.

WE examine and diagnose you, Not Web MD. If you come in telling NPs what you need based on previous experience or you "knowing your body", I don't care.

I still know the evidence and you still do not. What is the point of an immune system when you never let it work?

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-922171

I went into a clinic yesterday with symptoms that had the NP suggesting strep. He asked what my throat's pain level is from 1-10.

I said "9", he said, "let's call it an 8. Otherwise we might need to get you to the emergency room." I have very swollen tonsils that are in excruciating pain, very swollen lymph nodes, ears ache, neck pain, head ache and fever. He gave me some BS to gurgle 4 times a day and some eye drops!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to talk about being frustrated???

I paid for nothing and have only gotten worse. If he does not prescribe me to an antibiotic today, I will be going to the emergency room. What is the point of going to the doctor if i am supposed to only rely on my immune system? What is the point of having antibiotics that work if you don't want to use them?

At least you're getting overly paid well to tell me to rely on my immune system. What a joke!!!

I was ausual customer until tonight, i FED UP with the lack of organization and emloyees. How do you know the patients ahead of you were there for immunizations? You admit to violating their privacy and protected health information.

It's your responsibility for verifying insurance and prices beforehand.

Nobody cares if you never come back. Good riddance.

Guest

Um, how about you follow the rules of your Medicaid and go to your designated MD? There is a reason why they would not accept your "insurance" (aka Medicaid), which they don't accept at all by the way. Your fault for not checking!

Guest

Please, if you feel that way, take your Medicaid and go elsewhere. Thank you.

Minute Clinic - Break Time Review from Plantation, Florida

I went to a Minute Clinic and they were out to lunch. On the door on their hours it says 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

But they have a little clock on top of that sign that they can manually put what time they would be back and they put 3:00pm. I called at 1:30pm before even showing up to make sure they wear going to be there and no one answered the phone. At 2:30pm the nurse opens the door and says that she will be back in 30mins! WHAT?!?

How long is this lunch??

Not happy right now. This is the minute Clinic on Nob Hill and Broward Blvd in Plantation, Florida.

Lunch times vary. You even state that the clock said the provider would be returning at 3 pm so why are you so surprised when at 2:30 the provider told you it would be another 30 minutes?

Your complaint is dismissed. Please don't ever come back.

Guest

The nurse practitioners definitely cannot and do not come and go as they please. They're practically chained to that tiny box for 12 hours a day.

They are entitled to eat lunch so they dont pass out after the 100th *** walking in demanding to be seen without an appointment. For her to back back by 3 means she didn't get a lunch break until 230pm after working all morning since 7 or 8 am treating sick people. Definitely not her ideal situation. What time do you normally eat lunch?

And how does she celebrate getting to eat 3 hours late?

Having to deal with you when she gets back. Or you knocking on the door while she's trying to eat.

Guest

I worked in one of the customer service call centers for Minute Clinic and the Nurse Practitioners are not only under qualified and rude, they come and go as they want to with no regard for their patients. They don't answer their own phones so nobody ever knows when they are in and if the patient actually gets lucky (if that is want you want to call it) enough to see them, they charge an enormous amount of money to tell the patient they can't treat them or "buy some Mucinex.

That will be $160 and I will call you tomorrow". Stay away from Minute Clinic.

That place is bad news. Just sayin'......

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-904490

You were fired for being under qualified for a customer service job that only requires a high school degree. You have no medical degree and sometimes mucinex is all a patient needs as they come for simple complaints. If they were to answer the phone, they would never get anything done as they are the only one at the clinic and would have to continually interrupt patient visits.

Guest

I would venture to say that 1:30-2:30 is the time they shoot for, but obviously, with patients in and out, they can never be sure exactly what time they go. Also, you can't expect them to always answer the phone because the patients in front of them have priority over a ringing phone. Common sense.

Went in for Inhaler Refill & Treated Like Trying to Steal

I went into the new Minute Clinic on 1960 (By Champions Forest) to get a refill on my inhaler. Typically I have gone to the Walgreens Clinic on 34th street, however, this one was really close to my work so I thought I could get it done over my lunch break and not have to juggle my 2 year old at a doctor's office.

When I was called in and questioned about why I was there (had gone two weeks prior because I was coming down with a cold and already had bronchitis and was given steroids and a nebulizer pack (to be taken every 4 hrs)). Anyway, I had only had a few puffs on my inhaler and over Thanksgiving they ran out. So I went in to get the refill on my rescue inhaler.

Let me start off by saying I've never felt like I've ever been in a situation that I have been harrassed about why I think I need an inhaler -- These are the questions I was asked: "The nebulizer pack is albuterol just like your inhaler...Do you know/understand that?" "How often were you taking the nebulizer's twice a day?" (Already relayed took as prescribed on the last visit) "Why do you need and inhaler when you already have the nebulizer treatment?" (Tried to explain that I can't plug my nebulizer in a work and do it there because I am on the phone all day plus there are lots of places where that equipment cannot be utilized easily). Having a rescue inhaler that isn't on "0" shouldn't be a crime, especially if someone is sitting there wheezing.

Overall it was a VERY bad experience. I walked out after being asked the above questions over 6 times each. I have asthma but I shouldn't have to be treated like I'm stealing anything to get a medication that greatly increases my standard of living.

Guest

Thank you for this post! I recently lost my insurance and was looking for a solution to get my asthma control devices refilled.

Since my asthma is stress induced, and triggers panic attacks, I'd rather not be assaulted with questions while I'm trying to focus on getting enough air in my body so I don't give myself a headache. I'm sorry for your experience though!!

Guest

What is so bad about the questions you were asked, and how in the world did you deduce you were being accused of stealing? Going to MinuteClinic does not equate to being handed a blank Rx pad so you can get whatever meds you want no questions asked.

Even their advertising states that Rx's are written WHEN MEDICALLY INDICATED... if you take offense to safe prescribing practices then go puff on the tailpipe of your old jalopy'

Guest

Geez, so sensitive. You can't just go in there demanding whatever you want.

The provider has the right and responsibility to ask questions to gain further information about your knowledge and situation. You shouldn't wait until your inhaler says "0" to get a refill.

Andrea Ahw

These are legitimate questions that have to be asked. If you felt like a criminal then you have a guilty conscience.

Slow Service Review

The name "Minute Clinic" would imply to anyone with at least half a brain that a person could walk in and be seen in a reasonable amount of time. In my opinion, two hours is not a reasonable wait, especially when someone is in pain. It is practically impossible to find out what the wait time is over then phone and appointments are not taken. Therefore, you must drive to the clinic, wait behind a technologically inept senior citizen who has to rely on the store manager for assistance to get signed in, and when you finally get a chance to attempt to sign in are told it is a two hour wait because the ONE employee on staff has gone to lunch (for an hour and a half). Their whole process is a joke. Don't waste your time.

Would not prescribe antibiotic after pleading!!

I usually get a sinus infection once a year and this was my yearly sinus infection. I know when I am getting it and what it is. I've been to the same Minute Clinic in Charlotte on Carmel Rd for the same problem and always got an antibiotic. I was leaving to go out of town and wanted to get something to keep from feeling louse while on vacation. I begged, pleaded and cried but the doctor had no compassion at all!! She told me if I was still sick in a week, she would prescribe an antibiotic at that time........I guess she wanted me to go to a Minute Clinic while on vacation!! I WILL NEVER, EVER GO BACK!! Went to urgent care and they prescribed an antibiotic and a steroid.

You can't go in demanding things. An urgent care prescribes an antibiotic and steroid shot to any patient who wants one.

You did not see a doctor, you saw either a NP or PA. Antibiotics/medications are only prescribed when medically indicated.

Guest

Antibiotics aren't usually prescribed for a nonexistent condition. You need to have sinus issues for at least a week before I'll even THINK about prescribing you an antibiotic.

And that's based on solid evidence-based research. So remember that next time you demand an antibiotic.
