We took our son to the local minute clinic on 151st and Metcalf in Overland Park KS for sore throat. My son won't let the NP take the swab sample so she went ahead checking his ears for wax.

She informed us that there was a lot of wax builtup and whether we wanted her to remove it. She later used a high powered water jet to irrigate his left ear. On her third attempt my son an eight year old brave child started screaming in pain. The NP was indifferent and aborted the procedure and went back to her computer to type her notes.

When we asked her what was going on she just brushed us away by saying it was nothing and there is nothing wrong with the ear drum and that the wax might nave nudged it. We brough him home and in a couple of hours a bloody discharge started to ooze out of his ear. The next day we took him to his pediatrician who confirmed it was a ruptured ear drum - which is by the way very painful especially for a child - and needs to be protected from infection.

He is currently on two antiobotics oral and ear drop besides the regular pain and fever medicine to subdue the shooting pain he has. We are never going to minute clinic again as I would rather go to urgent care and have a qualified doctor look at our son.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

It is MinuteClinic policy to not remove ear wax from anyone under age 18. So they certainly would never have touched your 8 year old's ear wax.

Also ear wax is removed with a lighted curette -- not a so called high powered water jet.

LOL Your story sounds like the nurse took a pressure washer out of her garage and used it to clean your kid's ears while you sat by and allowed her to do so. At any rate your story has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

I find it very difficult to believe that anyone could use "a high powered water jet" to clean the ears of an uncooperative child who won't even open its mouth for a swab test. Your story is ridiculous in so many ways.

People like you are a liability to Healthcare professionals. You will not be missed. Take your business and your "high powered water jet" to urgent care where ...

Guess what ... You will also be seen by a PA or NP, but at a much higher copy!
